In Naviate Architecture 2014 Symetri released an improved version of the Fi2XML Export Application and now it's time for another step - internally we simply call it "Fi2NG". This application will attempt to determine the three standard Swedish area schemes BTA, BRA and NTA. As well as export these to the FI2XML format.
Usage
This application will create filled regions (one for each area scheme) in Revit from information recorded on your Rooms - the area of those filled regions will then be registered on back to the Rooms for export or documentation purposes. Furthermore you may export this information to the standard Fi2XML 1.31 format for storing in facility management systems.
The Area Schemes
The three area schemes created depend on different information and requires a carefully modeled Revit model - especially that Walls are modelled and set as Exterior.
BTA ("Gross Area") An area including the exterior walls. Pay attention to areas of the model without Rooms!
BRA ("Usable Area") An area divided into "Zones" - usage divisions such as tenants, apartments, rental agreements. Requires a parameter grouping Rooms into a Zone - the area will be to the inside wall division between such zones. As well as to the inside of the exterior walls (using the Walls Function Parameter). Ensure that the parameter RoomZoneName is used correctly for this to function - preferably a parameter describing an apartment number, tenant or division. If you do not have the need for a division, use an empty parameter or a level wide parameter such as LevelGUID.
NTA ("Net Area) An area inside the Room itself - more or less like the Revit standard area.
Workflow
Start the application and configure the parameters to use
Add unique codes to your Rooms ("GUIDs")
Create Preview Filled Regions for the three area schemes (you may select all or specific ones)
Close the application - area information is now recorded on the Rooms
Verify, Adjust and Edit the created Filled Regions
Start the application to update the area information on the Rooms to the updated regions
Optionally, export to Fi2XML
Demo
(No Audio - click Youtube or adjust settings for higher quality)
Please Note
Export to Fi2XML is not available in Revit 2025
Application is available in Revit 2022-2025
From Naviate 2025 the old Fi2XML application is discontinued in Naviate Architecture
Rooms are strange in Revit - make sure to verify the results
Creating Regions might take some time, filter the Rooms to improve performance
Filter and Isolate are RegEx, join words using the "|"-sign - "WC|Shaft|Room"
Export to Fi2XML will only function if you have given the rooms XML-codes
Only the visible and selected Rooms will be exported to Fi2XML
If an existing parameter is not allowed - delete it and let the function recreate the parameter
If you can't use a parameter - verify it's available to the correct categories in Revit (Manage/Project Parameters)
Areas without Rooms will not have Preview Regions, edit existing Regions to correct
If a Room fails, it will have a Red Circle - edit that Region before exporting

Revision History
v0.8.0 2024-12-13 Fix for crash Location XML dialog (missing or no XML-file) XML-data is now Read-Only in the main application and can only be edited with Edit Location XML Exports are now organised in sub folders for each project Experimental Export to Tiff included (select views first in the Project Browser) Building information added to the exported Fi2XML scheme like old Naviate v1.22 Bug fixes and smaller improvements
v0.7.1 2024-12-04 Custom Parameters can be exported to Fi2XML - all text parameters on Rooms supported Selected Custom Parameters are saved to an external file for use in other projects Location XML window has some issues with crashes, possibly connected to text editing
v0.6.0 2024-10-22 Parameter settings are saved outside the application and be can reused/copied to others Location XML window user-interface has been reimagined Datastorage disabled - the application does not save a Data Scheme to the model
v0.5.0 2024-10-15 Initial Release
Please Note
The software solutions published at Symetri Labs are provided free of charge but with the understanding that they are experimental. They not only might have issues - they certainly will have. Please take care, verify results, backup your data and reach out to us whenever you find issues.
At any time the software might change or even dissappear, we might update, bugfix, enhance and we might not. It might appear in Naviate or it might not.
Align Viewports by Grids is a Revit add-in helping users to quickly align viewports on their Sheets - moving the viewports against the intersection of two Grids so that all the position of all viewports match each other.
